The National Skate Patrol (NSP) is a network of proficient volunteers who promote inline skating as a safe and fun recreational sport. For over 10 years, NSP volunteers have offered free braking clinics and safety tips to inline skaters who use public parks and recreations trails. In many cities, NSP volunteers also work with clubs to organize large groups skates and work with local police departments as well as local goverment to improve public safety and community relations. The National Skate Patrol is also involved with event marshalling and charity work. Many members are certified inline skating instructors and First Aid and CPR Certified.

The National Skate Patrol Certification
The National Skate Patrol Certification Program provides a platform to increase the number of frequent inline skaters by using patrollers to help allow skaters to coexist with cyclist, runners, walkers and pedestrians on paths and roadways and provide basic on site instruction to beginners to encourage a safe and fun environment.

The purposes of the Skate Patrol are to provide a service to skaters using skating areas by:

1. Distribution of inline skate safety and education innformation to skaters.
2. Making skaters aware of park etiquette and ordinances.
3. Communicating with the local authorities regarding injuries.
4. Provide on site stopping instruction to those in need.
5. Promoting the safe use of areas for all participants
